that が好まれる場合
参考書の「that が好まれる (1)〜(6)」と格の表を、実際の英文で確かめた。比べるのはいつも同じ条件の中（制限用法・前置詞なし・人か物か・主格か目的格か）で、「何も付かない the ＋名詞」のときより that が増えるかを見ている。
結論
- (1)the only / the same / 最上級 などが付く 物なら支持・人なら不支持
物が先行詞のとき、which は何も付かない the ＋名詞で 11% → the only・same・最上級・very では 5〜8% に減る。ただし the first / last / next は which 15% で逆に増える。人が先行詞だと who が 70〜77% のまま（the only person who 80%）。
It’s the only explanation that makes sense.
- (2)all / every / any / no が付く 物なら支持・人なら不支持
物では which が 11% → 4〜7%。人では who が 68〜79%（何も付かない the ＋名詞は 75%）で、that にはならない。
All the people who attended the meeting were bored.
- (3)everything / anything / nothing が先行詞 支持
that が 97〜99%。which はほぼ出ない。ただし目的格では that より省略のほうが多い（everything I know）。

- (4)人と人以外が並ぶ先行詞 部分的（まれ）
「名詞 and 名詞＋関係詞」から人と人以外の組を AI が 500件判定し、両方にかかると言った51件のうち15件を読むと本物は8件。that 4・who 2・which 2 で、that が多いが who も which も出る。

- (5)疑問詞 who が先行詞（Who that …） 現代英語ではほぼ使われない
23.8億語で Who that … は83件、そのうち本物は6件だけで、19世紀の文章や聖書の文体（Who that knows of his misfortunes can help feeling an interest?）。残りは Who that?（「あれ誰？」）や間接疑問。

- (6)人の性格・状態を表す（the man that he used to be） 支持（ただし省略が最多）
関係詞を書くなら that 91%・who 9%（ふつうの人の目的格は that 74%）。ただし関係詞なしが 83%（he used to be の形は 84%）。that の典型は being the smart ass that I am。

- 但し書き(1)(2) で人が先行詞なら who が多い 支持
人が先行詞の主格は、frame があっても who が 68〜79%。例外は the only one で、that 49%。

人の目的格（the man ___ I met）は、省略 73%・that 20%・who/whom 7%。who と whom では who が 80%。whom が残るのは to whom など前置詞の後（10,121件）。

- 物にも whosewhose の先行詞は 人 39,368 ／ 物 25,673 ／ 集団 6,103（制限用法）。物の whose も珍しくない。
- カンマの後に that はほぼ来ない物が先行詞でカンマの後（非制限用法）は which が 91%。
数え方
- ラージコーパス（字幕・小説・ニュース・Wikipedia・ウェブ・Reddit・論文・インタビュー・会話）1億6,457万文を全部見た。品詞の並びで「名詞＋that/which/who/whom/whose」と「名詞＋I/you/he …＋動詞」（関係詞なし）を拾った。
- 比べる表から外したもの：カンマの後（非制限用法）・in which など前置詞の後・It is … that の強調構文（199,485）・time / way / reason / day など関係副詞になる名詞（356,716）・tell / show / reassure ＋人＋that（接続詞の that、92,630）・the fact that など同格の名詞の目的格（152,929）・主格か目的格か決められないもの（130,620）。
- 先行詞の名詞が人・動物・集団・物のどれかは、上位2,000語を Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite（無料枠・1回25語）で分けた。(4) の並列は1回25文で判定し、一部を読んで確かめた。
- that / which / who の拾い間違いは例文を読んで確かめた（the only ＋ that/who・those that はほぼすべて本物）。関係詞なしは12文中9文が本物で、その割合で割り引いた。
